Is it best to use liquid fungicides, insecticides, herbacides out of seperate sprayers?
Q. why is this? Also could people who are real familiar with all this stuff, what are the different sprays people use in their garden? I know: herbacides (24d and MSMA) Insecticides (catelpillars, beetles, bugs) Fungicides (for treating mold, mildew) Ferlitilzers ( are liquid forms better?) ? ?
Asked by Charles R - Sat Feb 17 20:36:18 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would not use the herbicide sprayer for other purposes as i am not sure i could get it clean enough to prevent damage to other plants.Insecticide & fungicides do not need seperate sprayers, traces even if found in the sprayer would do no harm, sometimes in a mixed infestation both types are used together.Fertiliser should reach the roots in an easily available form, with granular form it reaches the roots when the plant is watered while with liquid form it is readily available.

A. All insecticides in general are chemical based e.g, DDT, Malathion, Parathion, Phosgene, Warfrin/rat poison and have different mechanisms of actions, including blocking important neurotransmitters, enzymes, competitive inhibition of vitamins such as rat poison, interference in oxygen transport etc., etc., You can google them out, can search from wikipedia etc., depending on the nature of your chemistry project

How much money do you spend on insecticides yearly?
Q. I need to know the acceptable $ range for how much one spends on insecticides in one year...both indoors and outdoors. How much do you use and what's the most amount of money a frequent user spends in one year? I'm conducting a survey, so I needed some realistic $ ranges to include, and was wondering the maximum amount of money an average person would spend per year. Thank you. =)

A. Seems alot of people say I don't use insecticides because every insect has a purpose. whatever not in my house they don't. Let me answer your question. I spent 64.00 4 years ago on chemical and a sprayer and the chemical should last me another 8 years. Go to your landscape supply store like Lesco or John Deere landscapes or a farm co-op not lowes or home depot. Ask for a bottle of Bifentrin it is a insecticide that has no odor and is safe for inside and out they use it at restraunts, hospitals etc. Get a pump sprayer and spray around your house and windows and if you have trouble spots inside. You can spray it on the lawn also to get rid of ticks, fleas, chiggers, cric kets, web worms etc.

How can I get rid of moths overrunning us without using moth balls or chemical insecticides in the house ?
Q. Lately we have had an invasion of moths in our house, mostly active at night, and need to find some way of getting rid of them without having to use mothballs all over the place or spraying smelly insecticides everywhere. We never notice them coming into the house and are puzzled as to where they are coming from. I hope someone can give us some ideas on how to get rid of them before they cause more damage.

A. get a bug zapper. it's that contraption with a black light (emits UV rays to attract all sorts of bugs) surrounded by electric coils. bug (moth) comes to the light. Zap! no chemicals, no odor save for fried bug smell.

What can I do to get rid of an ant infestation other than commercial insecticides?
Q. They built a nest in an outlet in my house. I've sprayed with commercial insecticide, both inside and out. I'd rather use something more natural to repel them completely.
Asked by Kate B - Mon Jun 18 21:01:58 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Mix Borax half and half with flour as long as you don't have pets or kids around to get into it. The ants will carry it back to the nest and kill the whole colony. You can get borax at walmart or the grocery store in the laundry detergent aisle.

Dandelions are rich in vitamins and minerals. Uses for consumption to obtain these vitamins and minerals include eating the flowers in salads and cooking. The flowers also are used to make dandelion wine. The leaves while they are still young make a wonderful spring salad. The white part between the leaves and root are good cooked, buttered and salted. The leaves can also be used to make tea. The roots are usually too small to cook up. By roasting them and grinding them into small pieces they make a coffee substitute. Like their cousins the Chicory they can be added to coffee… [cont.]

How can i neutralize the odor of Pesticides and Insecticides?
Q. I had a house centipede in my dorm room and sprayed a lot of RAID and ortho max defense. My room smells a lot like the pesticide that comes out of the can of RAID. What can I do to neutralize the pesticide and is inhaling it bad, even thought nothing is mentioned about it on both cans? thank you very much!

A. Nice thing is that those aren't terribly concentrated. Bad thing is that they are toxic to you too! Next time, I'd just squish it. Anywho, open your windows!!! that's how you'll get rid of the smell. The active ingredient in those sprays isn't what smells, it's probably the fragrance they put in there. Odds are the actual pesticide is attached to the dust (the class of pesticides in those sprays loves to attach to dust/dirt). Anywho, open a window and do what you can to air out your room. SQUISH the centipede next time too! Good luck!

Q. I would not want to use some remedy that is not eco-friendly.

A. First, you must remove any food source that these ants could be using. Then you could use a number of things to rid them. 1> Bleach. Pour directly on the mound. Just a small amount. 2> Sulphur. Sprinkle around the mound and around the outside edges of the patio.(Also keeps other pests away) 3. Dish detergent & water. Pour directly onto the mounds. Considerable amounts of this to flood the mounds.. 4. Vinegar. Also pour directly onto the mound. Any of these should take care of your problem. Good Luck

What actually happens to a mosquito or a roach when subjected to insecticides?
Q. Of course, it dies eventually...but just before it dies, does it get seizures or what?
Asked by Cyn - Wed Jun 28 05:12:47 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The answer depends entirely upon the type of insecticide used. Some examples: Aldrin is an organochlorine insecticide which is oxidized in the insect to form dieldrin, a neurotoxin. Dieldrin is closely related to aldrin. Endrin is a stereoisomer of dieldrin and is structurally similar to aldrin. DDT kills by opening sodium channels in insect neurons, causing the neuron to fire spontaneously. This leads to uncontrolled spasming and eventual death. Lindane is another organochloride and interferes with the GABAa receptor/Cl- neurotransmitter channel in the brain. This usually results in paralysis and brain death. Diazinon is an organophosphorus and kills insects by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme needed for proper nervous… [cont.]

A. 1. Crop rotation 2. Change perennial pastures (such as a Bermuda grass field) into a perennial pasture containing many species instead of just one species 3. Break larger fields into smaller ones by planting trees and shrubs. This will increase the bird population greatly which of course mostly feed on insects. 4. Practice rotational grazing 5. Free range chickens behind rotational grazing cattle 6. Use natural instead of synthetic insecticides. 7. In gardens you can companion plant to help shield your plants from insects

A. That may not be possible, but I do have a trick that will at least get rid of almost all of them. Take a soda bottle, or beer bottle, anything with a long neck; fill it with about an inch of sugar water, making sure to have a good amount of sugar. Now, bury the bottle standing up, allowing for only the top 1/2 to 1 inch to remain uncovered. The ants will be attracted to the smell of the sugar water and climb up the bottle, and then inside. Once inside, they will not be able to get back out, and die. Good luck!

Rotenone is a poison commonly added to insecticides.Insects exposed to rotenone will die because?
Q. A) of inadequate ATP production B) water will not be produced and dehydration will occur C) anaerobic respiration can't occur D) High Levels of fermentation products will buil up E None of the choices are correct.
Asked by Yely - Sun Oct 21 17:56:17 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Rotenone basically binds to NADH Dehydrogenase (Complex I of the electron transport chain) and inhibits the transfer of Hydride (H-) from Fe-S centers in Complex I to ubiquinone, thereby shutting down the electron tranport chain which inhibits the cell from making the ATP that it needs to survive Consequently the answer is "A" Well, hope that explains well enough Good Luck!!

How do you get rid of aphids on a pepper plant? (I'd rather not use insecticides)?
Q. The plant is planted in a large pot on our back deck (we live in the city)... it seems to be overwhelmed with aphids.
Asked by mz1154 - Tue Jun 20 17:12:17 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. To get rid of Aphids on any plant you can mix any kind of cooking oil and water and spray the plant both top and bottom of leaves. Aphids will ingest the oil and they will suffocate. This method works well and you are not harming the Eco system. You can also buy Volic Oil at any garden center and do the same thing. You must apply this everytime you water because you want to get all the aphids as they hatch. The best time to apply is early morning and on cloudy days to avoid dirct sunlight. You may also use ladybugs. They love to eat aphids. Also water and dishsoap will sometimes work.

A. About a year ago, a friend told me about Borax. It is cost effective and won't harm your plants. I put Borax in my dogs bath water and sprinkle some on his bed. It really works great and it's safe! Good Luck! (you can find it in the laundry detergent section at Wal-Mart or your grocery store)

A. Being a vegan means you do what you can and all you can to minimise your contribution to animal suffering and exploitation; it doesn't mean you sacrifice your own health or safety - allowing insects and rodents that spread disease and are a danger to endanger your health and safety and that of your family, particularly your children, is not vegan it is irresponsible and stupid. Though a dilemma, because you don't want to harm life, it is essential to rid your house of rodents and other pests if you have an infestation. Unfortunately mice don't come into the house singly - they move in en masse and breed very quickly - so catching them singly and putting them outside isn't really a practical option. If taken outside they will soon find… [cont.]
