What is this floating curved line and black dot in the corner of my eye?
Q. I have a floating curvy line and a little black dot in the corner of my left eye. I can't see it all the time, only in certain lighting and against white surfaces. When I try to look directly at it it moves away, it's impossible. And it also seems to float with gravity, depending on which way I'm sitting or laying. If anyone can help me out and tell me what this is or if it is a major problem or just a common problem it would be much appriciated. Thanks!

A. Very common problem! Just floaters, as said above. Everyone has a jelly - like substance in their eyes called vitreous. It can detach from where its anchored and "float around", what you are experiencing is actually the vitreous moving in front of the back of your eye (the macula) and disturbing your vision. It is not dangerous! If your have a black or red "curtain" come down over you vision, consult a MD immediatly. Also, if you have flashes of light in your vision when in a room where light is not there. Otherwise, dots, lines and floating shapes are normal. Just watch for the signs above.

How long do floating candles last?
Q. I'll be getting married in a couple of years, and I was just thinking about centerpieces (I'm thinking way ahead I guess), and I thought that dishes with floating candles would make nice centerpieces for the tables. I just want to know if they would keep burning throughout the whole reception or if they would go out. If you've ever used floating candles, please let me know an estimate of how long a floating candle lasts.

A. I used a couple in a bathtub. Heck, they were only about 50 cents-but I think they lasted a long while-several hours, actually. I'd buy plenty just in case you run out since they're so cheap.

What would cause blurry vision with spots floating around?
Q. I have had glasses for 12 years, I am 26 now. I have had the same glasses for the last 4 years as my vision has not changed. All of a sudden things are blurry, or there are white spots floating around, or both together. Is there any reason for this? I have never had this problem before. I have not noticed any triggers, it just happens here and there. If anyone has any ideas it would be great! Thanks!

A. sounds like you are describing floaters, a symptom of retina damage. see you eye doctor.
